We understand that longer or more involved dental procedures can sometimes feel overwhelming. IV moderate sedation gives us another way to help patients feel more relaxed and comfortable while receiving the periodontal and implant care they need.
A More Comfortable Treatment Experience
IV moderate sedation uses medication given through an intravenous line to help you feel deeply relaxed during your procedure.
You will remain responsive and able to communicate with our team, but many patients feel very calm throughout treatment and may remember little about the appointment afterward.
For patients who experience dental anxiety or are preparing for a longer surgical procedure, sedation can help make treatment feel much more manageable.
When May IV Sedation Be Helpful?
IV moderate sedation may be considered for a variety of periodontal and implant procedures, especially when treatment is expected to be longer or more involved.
This may include procedures such as:
- All-on-X implant treatment
- Larger bone grafting procedures
- Sinus lift procedures
- Soft tissue grafting
- More extensive periodontal or implant surgery
Sedation may also be helpful for patients who feel nervous about dental treatment, have had difficult experiences in the past, or simply prefer additional comfort during their procedure.
What to Expect
Before your procedure, Dr. Hanson and our team will review your medical history, medications, and treatment plan with you.
We will also explain how to prepare for your appointment, what to expect during treatment, and how to care for yourself afterward.
On the day of your procedure, the sedation medication will be given through an IV and carefully monitored throughout your appointment. Once you are comfortable and relaxed, treatment will begin.
Because the effects of sedation can last for several hours, you will need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you as recommended following your procedure.
